The BGC Stettler-Heartland Youth Centre's (HYC) biggest fundraiser of the year, the Awesome Auction, is done for another year.
With the theme of "boots and bling," the annual steak and lobster dinner and auction took place on June 7 at the Stettler Community Hall.
"It went good," said HYC Executive Director Winnie Bissett. "Fundraising was about the same as last year."
According to Bissett, final numbers are still coming in, but the anticipated revenue from the sell-out event is going to be over $80,000.
Bissett notes that the annual celebration was bittersweet with the passing of a longtime HYC supporter, Letty Docherty. Docherty had started on a quilt, which had been finished off by a group of local quilters and auctioned off at the Awesome Auction with the support of Docherty's daughters.
Fitting in with the theme of "boots and bling," the Woods brothers, both long-time supporters of the HYC who have been volunteering since they were in their teens, glitzed up a pair of cowboy boots, which were also auctioned off.
The Awesome Auction runs at the beginning of June every year, and is the largest of several fundraisers the HYC runs every year, including the Bowl for Kids every March.
