With new vegetation growth in the county helping reduce the fire hazard in the region, Stettler County has lifted the fire ban, moving instead to a fire restriction effective June 6.
The current forecast does not predict any significant rain, so the county will be monitoring weather conditions and adjusting as necessary.
During the restriction, no new fire permits will be issued, and the burning of windrows and brush piles is prohibited.
Essential burning in burn barrels is allowed, provided they are constructed of non-combustible material and have a tight-fitting metal mesh covering not larger than 13mm.
Backyard fire pits and wood campfires are also allowed, provided they are "contained by non-combustible material" and covered by a metal mesh covering with openings smaller than 13mm.
The County encourages the public to inspect off-highway and farm equipment regularly to ensure it is kept free of debris and spark arrestors are working properly.
