Stettler cadets hold annual awards presentation

The event was held at the Stettler Legion

The 572 Coyotes Royal Air Cadet Squadron based in Stettler held its annual cadet revue at the Stettler Legion on June 14.

An opportunity to celebrate the year's accomplishments, the revue is an opportunity for the public to see what the cadets have been working on for the past year and support them as they are presented the year's awards.

The ceremony began with cadets marching past Legion President Ray Cerniuk and demonstrating drill procedures.

Carrying on, the ceremony continued with O Canada and God Save the King before getting into the awards.

The squadron's 2025 public speaking award was presented to Cpl. Sydney Wheat.

Leading Air Cadet Autumn Olsen was presented with the best first-year cadet award.

This award is awarded by staff, "with input from senior cadets, looks at attendance, general impressions, dress and deportment, volunteer hours, and Participation in squadron activities."

Cpl. Austin Greidanus was awarded the most improved cadet.

Flight Cpl. Bittany Kirk was presented the award for best marksman.

The award for best attendance was a tie between Flight Cpl. Liam Ross and Flight Cpl. Hudson Hetchler.

Warrant Officer Second Class Wesley Pockett was presented the award for Best Drill, Dress and Deportment.

"In Air Cadets, the 'best dress, drill, and deportment award' generally refers to a cadet who consistently demonstrates excellence in these areas throughout the training year," said Scott Roenspies, deputy commanding officer of the squadron. "This award recognizes the cadet who excels in theoretical and practical applications, maintaining the highest standards of personal appearance, following drill procedures correctly, and exhibiting exemplary behaviour and leadership. "

The Commanding Officer's Award was presented to Sgt. Angelo Manalili, an award presented to a cadet "who has shown devotion to serving" the squadron.

The Cadet of the Year award was presented to Flight Sgt. Gabriel Trask.

The Cadet of the Year "consistently sets a prime example for peers and subordinates" and is "Regarded by peers and supervisors as exemplifying the model cadet."

Finally, the Lord Strathacona Medal was presented to Sgt. Gage Maruk.

"The Lord Strathcona Medal is one of the highest awards that can be granted to a cadet," said Roenspies. "It demonstrates all that Lord Strathcona himself personified: hard work, dedication, service to Canada, excellence in all pursuits, vision, perseverance and intelligence and a focus on stewardship of our country; its health and vibrancy and that of its youth. "

Following the revue and awards presentations, a luncheon was held for those in attendance.

It was also a time to say goodbye, with three senior cadets "retiring" due to aging out of the program.

The 572 Coyotes Air Cadets Squadron has 23 active cadets.

A community-based program, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets program's mission "is to contribute to the development and preparation of youth for the transition to adulthood, enabling them to meet the challenges of modern society."
