The Stettler Hospice Society hosted its annual "Hike for Hospice" fundraiser on May 4.
For the 2025 event, organizers decided to go with a Star Wars theme.
"Three-quarters of the people were in costume," said Hospice Society Board Member Chad Dalsin. "Everyone was in Star Wars theme ... it made it fun."
According to Dalsin, the weather was less cooperative for the event than in past years, which resulted in fewer people attending the hike than in past years.
Around 55 people took part in this year's event, down from around 80 in 2024.
"We made the best of it," said Dalsin. "Everyone who came out had a great time."
A barbecue was held at the gazebo in West Stettler Park after the hike, and prizes were awarded for best dressed adult, child and dog.
The annual business challenge was won by Stettler's Electric Sliders line-dancing group, which raised around $4,000.
Dalsin notes that the event couldn't run without the 20 or so volunteers it takes to put on the event and their efforts are appreciated.
The Hike for Hospice is one of two major fundraisers for the Stettler Hospice held every year, with the Stettler Christmas Variety Show being the other. In addition, the society raises funds by bartending at special events.
2025's Hike for Hospice raised around $15,500.
