The dinner theater this past weekend was a huge success considering the iffy weather we have been putting up with this past month. There were more than 130 guests who enjoyed a delicious dinner and a very entertaining improvisational group from Edmonton who had the crowd laughing steady.

Next on the Ag Society’s agenda will be the Spring Fling on April 21, with a live and silent auction of delicious desserts and many donations from our many supporting businesses and volunteers. It is always a fun event with our own local auctioneer, Travis Caweziel and his merry band of spotters.

Jill Holowath let me know that the bottle and battery drive that was scheduled for this past Sunday was cancelled for the obvious reason that the recycled items that they are interested in collecting are still covered in many inches or feet of snow in most yards. She will let me know when they set the new date, probably by the end of the month, so I can give you some time to get your donations ready. I hope by the end of this month, we will be seeing some clear ground and green grass. Mock achievement day is planned for April 28 in the hopes that the 4-H pens in at the Ag Society grounds will be dry enough to lead calves around.

It might seem a little early for this bit of news but for those of you who are part of a slow-pitch team, if you are interested in joining us for sports days in July, we will be taking first come, first serve on all registrations as we want all teams registered and paid for by June 1. You can contact myself or Logan Kiemele to register.

One last thing, I have been approached by a few people interested in having a community garage sale this year. I know it has been a few years now so maybe it is time to have one if we can get enough people interested. I was thinking that by the end of May could be a good time. We found that the last time we had one we had lots of people come on a Friday night but not that many on Saturday when the bigger centers had lots going on. It might be a good idea to open ours on a Thursday night and Friday night then not on Saturday. If you are interested contact myself at the library and I’ll put you down.

My final word:

A woman walked into the vets’ office wanting to have her cat and six kittens spayed and neutered. “Is the mother friendly?” asked the vet. “Oh very,” said the woman, “That’s how we got into this mess in the first place.”

Have a great week.
