The County of Paintearth has approved a request for a sand haul for the Coronation Golf Course.

Approved during the May 6 council meeting, the Coronation Golf Course requested that Paintearth County provide a dump truck to haul sand from a pit at Pine Lake to the course.

According to a letter accompanying the request for council decision, there is no rush for the haul.

Director of operations Bryce Cooke noted that the county could fit the haul into their schedule easily.

"We usually go on a rain day," said Cooke, noting that the haul would likely occur sometime this month.

Sports grants

Council received a pair of requests for funding under its sports and culture grant program.

The Coronation U11 and U15 softball teams requested grant funding for provincial tournaments this summer.

Paintearth County annually budgets $5,000 for community youth participating in culture and sports activities at the provincial, national, or international levels.

Individuals can request up to $50 and teams can request up to $500.

Both teams received the maximum allowable $500 each.

Election honourariums

With municipal elections coming up in October, the county has begun preparing.

Council has approved $300 flat rate for people working the election.

County staff working the election will receive $200 and meals above their regular wages.

Staff called in to count ballots will receive $100.

Tower 33

Council received a report from County Protective Services Officer Colm Fitzgerald regarding a wind tower in the Halkirk 2 Wind Project.

Tower 33 in the project made headlines last fall when the nacelle fell from the tower in November.

While the debris on the ground has been mainly cleaned up, the four sections of the tower were damaged in the incident as well and need to be taken down.

The plan for the site is to take down the tower, have the concrete base of the site assessed by an engineer, then, should it pass inspection, rebuild the site in the coming weeks.
