MLA Rick Strankman met with Stettler county councillors to hear their concerns during their January council meeting. The Drumheller-Stettler representative has been visiting with area councils while the legislature is out of session.

The local MLA asked council for a list of potential projects he could help advocate for provincial funding, after Infrastructure Minister Sandra Jansen put out a request for proposals. One issue brought up by Byemoor-Endiang Councillor Les Stulberg was funding for paving work on secondary highways. In particular, he was concerned about the southern stretch of Highway 855 within Stettler County that has yet to be upgraded to the road standard in the Special Areas.

Another topic discussed with the MLA was over an agriculture plastics recycling policy. At this time, the UCP MLA did not know if the NDP were planning on bringing in regulations to address burning plastics within Alberta.

Finally, the Drumheller-Stettler MLA spoke of wanting to set up a rural crime meeting with the County and MP Kevin Sorenson, similar to the meetings that Red Deer-Lacombe MP Blaine Calkins held in Alix earlier this month. It was suggested that officials meet with RCMP members in the coming weeks for tips to pass along on preventing crimes of opportunity.
