Lack of free-enterprise leadership from all parties

.

Dear Editor,

So, Ed Stelmach has done a favour to his colleagues who are attempting to replace him as Premier of Alberta by suggesting that the municipal infrastructure funding could be introducing a new $100 million in funding specifically for the Katz Arena.

This will allow the “leaders” of the future to stop putting forward such asinine ideas such as lottery or GST tax increases. What is truly asinine is the lack of free-enterprise leadership from all parties.

The fact that Edmonton has supported a NHL team though its economic strength for 30 years and the Oilers need no support doesn’t seem to matter. The fact that a private profit corporation won’t open its books to the public but is seeking a $350 million public subsidy doesn’t matter.

The fact that the Katz group won’t even disclose who belongs to the group doesn’t matter.

All the political candidates, from every party, are of the opinion that this billionaire and his friends need the money, all the money, from all the revenues our publicly financed Katz Arena can produce. Not only that, but Northlands is to be shut out of competing against Katz for non-hockey events because only one arena is viable.

I would love the CEO of Northlands to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and compete with the Oilers! Imagine free enterprise at its best and the best organization wins.

Whoops, did I just explain why none of these so-called conservatives are really free enterprise.

Sorry.

Don McGregor,

Edmonton
