As a long-term resident of Stettler and a retired Financial Services business owner, I decided that I could keep busy working at the Museum using the mechanical, welding, and blacksmithing skills I brought to Canada from England 54 years ago.
I'm also a director at the museum and currently second Vice President. Now in my second year there, along with a group of like-minded people, working to help make this a special place to showcase the history of our region's multiculturalism, farming, oil patch and past businesses.
Our group realizes that there's much work needed to make the museum a bigger focus for our area citizens to come and visit!
Firstly, a big thank you to Will Brown and staff at Brown's Insurance and Financial Services Inc. for the newest addition to the museum, in the design and landscaping of our new nine-hole mini-putting course.
This was done in memory of Dick Richards who was our mayor and the previous owner of the Co-Operators Insurance business.
Also, thanks to the High School and generous funding partners too numerous to mention!
The museum needs more volunteers, ideally, local seniors, anyone looking for a part-time volunteerism opportunity, or anyone wishing to come and help.
There's lots of grass to cut, flower beds to water and antique machines and equipment to repair or repaint.
Then, multiple buildings to repaint and tidy up!
Also needed is a retired business owner to help with fundraising and promotion of the museum and events.
To highlight our new mini golf addition, someone, or a group to run an ice cream, smoothie, coffee, snack shack for staff and visitors to the museum.
To help make our Town and County Museum a place well worth visiting, we want to continue to host a range of regular events to showcase our area's history, its people, and past industries.
The museum has a significant number of buildings, tractors, automobiles, along with industrial and other antique equipment that require repair, painting, etc.
There's an opportunity for local families and business owners to help with an annual sponsoring donation.
To help cover repairs, new batteries, flat tires, antifreeze, paint, lumber, etc., all to enhance the future visitor experience.
I would also ask that families might consider a donation in memory of a deceased loved one to help cover staff wages, water and utility bills, and help fund special events throughout the year.

Director and Second Vice President
