A two-car collision on Highway 2A just outside of Wetaskiwin killed two people on Canada Day.
Police said in a release on July 3 that they were called to a collision south of the city limits around 7:30 p.m July 1. It was reported that a collision had occurred between a pickup truck and a small SUV.
Police and EMS were able to rescue two occupants from a burning vehicle.
In the news release Thursday, police said a 61-year-old male resident of California and 64-year-old female resident of Wetaskiwin were found deceased at the scene.
All of the other vehicle occupants were taken to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
As a result of the investigation, a portion of the highway remained closed for several hours. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the K-Division Collision Analyst team and the Wetaskiwin General Investigation Unit.
The RCMP send their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
