The 18th Annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Gull Lake Golf Course July 20 and 21 saw some great players come out to golf.
"It was excellent, everybody had a good time, It was extremely hot, but everybody managed to battle through it. They managed to play all the rounds. We had a really good turnout," said Carla McCann, who owns the golf course with her husband Eamon.
"There was a bunch of pros up from Calgary and one was from Red Deer, and just a lot of local people. It was really, really good, and we had a lot of juniors, and they enjoyed themselves. It was just a really fun event."
The tournament saw 51 participants, plus the nine pros.
"It was up about 15 percent from last year, so that was good," said George Smith, chairman of the Gull Lake Junior Golf Foundation.
Money raised through the silent auction and private donors during the tournament go toward the Junior Golf Foundation of Gull Lake.
"We were able to raise enough money that we should be able to give out eight scholarships this year," said Smith.
Paul Devenport, who resides in Victoria, B.C. was one of the pros at the tournament, along with Chris Melbourne, Lisa Rosengarten, Rhonda Carter and more.
Smith said that some of the players are actually current teachers in the junior program on Sunday afternoons.
The majority of the players were from the Calgary area this year.
"Fifteen of those kids of the 51 people were juniors of which 12 probably play in the league, so they knew their instructors, so I think they were a little more relaxed. They see them every week," added Smith.
