PHOTOS: 89th Ponoka Stampede Parade salutes bullfighters

The theme this year was 'A Salute to the Bullfighters'

The annual Ponoka Stampede Parade rolled through downtown Ponoka on Friday, June 27, with over 160 entries. 

The theme this year was "A Salute to the Bullfighters."

Ponoka Stampede Bullfighters Ty Prescott, Brett Monea and Tanner Byrne were this year’s parade marshals. 

Dignitaries included Premier Danielle Smith, Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi, MLA Jennifer Johnson, MP Blaine Calkins, Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson and members of council, Ponoka Stampede directors, Miss Rodeo Canada and Miss Ponoka Stampede and other visiting rodeo royalty.

Each year, more than 10,000 spectators take in the three-mile Ponoka Stampede Downtown Parade, which features plenty of colourful floats, mascots, classic cars, marching bands, clowns and a whole lot more. 

The entry winners were: 

- Professional: 1st, The Barn Garden Centre, 2nd, LW Tire and Auto; 

- Non-professional: 1st, Altitude Spa and Kim Green Dental, 2nd, Bobtail Nursery; 

- Non-commercial: 1st, Akamihk Child and Family Services, 2nd, Maskwacis Cultural College; 

- Mounted: 1st, Titan Livestock, 2nd, Edmonton Sherriffs Posse Association; 

- 4-H: 1st, Ponoka 4-H Renegade Riders, 2nd, Crestomere Multi Club;

- Heavy Hitch: 1st, Double T Percherons, 2nd, Pigeon Lake Horse Drawn Riders; 

- Light Horse Hitch: 1st, Pigeon Lake Horse Drawn Riders, 2nd, Alberta Friesian Horse Association.
