Mark and Julie Jones have returned home from spending a week in San Diego, Calif. There they enjoyed a visit with Mark’s sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Williams.

Congratulations to first-time parents Devon and Shauna Mappin on the birth of their son Carson Allen Mappin on Nov. 18 in Red Deer. Carson weighed in at seven pounds two ounces.

Congratulations are also in order for the local grandmother, Marlene Mappin — enjoy the addition to your family, all.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Frank Bates who passed away on Nov. 18 in Stettler. He was one week away from his 97th birthday. Frank and his late wife Amy (nee Nixon) farmed south of Byemoor for a number of years. Four sons were born to the couple — Mike, Pat, Tim and Dana.

Frank’s funeral service will be held on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Stettler Funeral Home.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of Dennis Schultz who passed away on Nov. 21 in Brooks. He was 81. Dennis was raised south of Endiang, on the farm of his parents Paul and Connie Schultz.

Dennis and his wife Isabel raised a family of three children and have lived for many years in Brooks.

A memorial service was held for Dennis on Nov. 26 in Brooks. Interment took place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Scapa where he was laid to rest in the family plot. Dennis’ grandparents Julius and Emma Schultz were founding members of the church and several family members are buried at St. Peter’s.

Our thoughts are with all the families who are mourning the loss of these two fine gentlemen.

It is less than a month until Christmas, makes one wonder where the time has gone.

Humour for the day — “Dear Santa — For Christmas I want a big fat bank account and a thin body. Please don’t mix it up like you did last year and the year before that.”
