The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is continuing its investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Leduc earlier this summer, and is seeking witnesses to the incident.

On June 19, police were responding to multiple reports about an allegedly suicidal man with a firearm, according to a press release.

Reports said the man had consumed alcohol and prescription pills.

As the man's location was initially unknown, the Leduc RCMP used resources from other RCMP detachments, as well as the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), including their helicopter and tactical team.

The man was found in his vehicle and police contained the area around him. The helicopter captured the incident on video.

The man was seen with a fire arm while inside his vehicle. Police spoke with him over the phone but were unsuccessful in deescalating the situation. The man then stepped out the vehicle with the firearm.

Members of the EPS tactical team discharged their weapons, resulting in the death of the man.

ASIRT is continuing efforts to identify possible witnesses to the incident and is asking anyone who was in the area, and either saw the confrontation or have video footage, to contact investigators at 780-644-1483.
