The second show of the 2022-2023 Stettler Variety Showcase (SVS) season is coming up in early December.

Taking place on Dec. 4 at the Stettler Performing Arts Centre, the show will feature the vocal talents of Canadian tenor Ken Lavigne.

Lavigne, a resident of Chemainus, B.C. and a founding member of the Canadian Tenors singing quartet, will be on a tour of Alberta when he comes through town.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Lavigne.

“It will be my first time in Stettler.”

Area residents attending Lavigne’s show will be treated to a performance he calls “Three Knights with a Tenor and a little mistletoe.”

According to Lavigne, the first-half of the two-hour performance will feature songs from three iconic British performers: Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Paul McCartney, and Sir Elton John. The second half of the show will feature a variety of classic and sacred Christmas songs.

Lavigne says that those in the audience for the concert will be treated to a “guided vocal tour of this wonderful material.”

“With so much material, it’s difficult to cram them into one show,” said Lavigne, noting that during his performance a number of medley’s will be thrown in.

“I try to be as authentic as I can, and have a good time with it.”

Despite no one else in his family being singers, Lavigne has been drawn to singing since he was a young child. After trying out the requisite youth-sports, music lessons began for him at an early age. His musical education includes time at the University of Victoria in B.C., school in New York and in the United Kingdom before returning to Canada.

Lavigne is a singer and songwriter who has graced stages all over North America, including the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2009.

People wanting to catch Lavigne on Dec. 4 will have two opportunities to do so with a 1:30 p.m. show and a 7 p.m. show.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for students, available at Grate Kitchen Shoppe.
