Stettler’s Wildcat Theatre presenting The Sound of Music

If the current Wildcat Theatre production of The Sound of Music is any indication, theatre in Stettler is in good hands.

Based on a 1959 stage musical written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II with the same name, the pre-World War Two story is set in Austria just prior to the German invasion.

The musical is based on the real-life story of the von Trapp Family Singers who escaped their home just after the invasion by Adolf Hitler’s military.

With beautifully constructed sets and a talented pool of student thespians, the three-hour musical succeeds in grabbing the viewer from the opening scenes right through to the close.

A 20-minute intermission does take place between acts one and two, allowing everyone to use the restroom, take advantage of the concession offered by the Wildcat Theatre, and get in a leg stretch.

The production is directed by Wm. E. Hay Secondary Campus vice principal Darren Fleischhacker, co-directed by Taylor Marko, choreographed by Ivy Scott, and features Eric Rahn as musical director.

As for cast, the production is headlined by Bianica Brugman and Nathan Lawlor, who play Maria von Trapp and Captain Georg von Trapp respectively. The production features too many others to name, however the hours of effort everyone put in is apparent with the final production.

For those who haven’t seen the show yet, The Sound of Music will continue its run at the Performing Arts Centre from March 2-4, with tickets available at Wells Furniture.
