The Klaglahachie Fine Arts (KFA) Society is presenting the Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra (CACO) on Feb. 26.
Ranging from Mozart’s Two Country Dances to Canadian composer Carmen Braden’s Every Freeze is Different, the CACO will be performing a range of music to ease the winter-time blues.
The CACO was recently formed by local professional musicians. The orchestra was created so that it’s members were able to perform in the Central Alberta region, bringing their music and talents to those who might not make the trip to larger areas for the same quality of performances.
Ponoka’s own violinist, Zoe McCormick, will be performing this weekend with the chamber orchestra. McCormick has been studying at Burman University and will soon be achieving her Masters in violin.
This talented musician has been auditioning with groups in major cities in both Canada and the United States in hopes of being able to continue with the next phase of her musical journey.
The Orchestra is performing on Sat, Feb. 25 at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Red Deer at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Their second show is at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the KFA Theatre. Tickets to Sunday’s performance are $20 and are available at kfatheatre.com or at the Church office. Office hours are Tuesday to Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The KFA theatre group has been active in Ponoka for over 15 years. The non-profit group presents a musical during the Christmas season, as well as spring plays on occasion, and hosts summer drama camps for kids. McCormick herself is a former KFA performer whose credits include Anne of Green Gables and A Christmas Carol.
