The second show of the Stettler Variety Showcase 2023-24 season will be taking place in early December.

Transitioning to the Stettler Performing Arts Centre for the remainder of the season from the Community Hall after the first performance, the Dec. 3 show will feature Montreal-based brass quintet Brass Buzz.

Brass Buzz is embarking on its 22nd season as a group, and they have released eight albums.

According to Sylvain Lapointe, spokesperson for the group, Bass Buzz’s Stettler shows will be a mix of classical music by composers such as Bach and holiday classics from around the turn of the 20th century mixed with a good dose of humour in between.

When asked about the staying power of the group, Lapointe believes it is because of the common vision of the band members.

“We’re all in this together,” said Lapointe.

“We love music.”

Lapointe says that four of the five band members are original, and the fifth has been a member for 14 years.

The band consists of members Sylvain Lapointe, trumpet; Frederic Gagnon, principal trumpet; Pascal Lafreniere, horn; Jason Du Carufel, trombone; and Sylvain Arseneau, bass trombone.

According to Lapointe, the Stettler leg will be the first of three Alberta tours the band is taking in 2023-24.

The first leg will run in November and December 2023. A second leg will run in January 2024, followed by a third leg in April 2024.

Two shows will be run on Dec. 3; an afternoon show at 1:30 p.m. and an evening show at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at Grate Kitchen or at the door.

To check out the band before the show, check them out on Spotify or Apple Music.
