Stettler Variety Showcase's first show of 2025 is coming up on Jan. 19.
Alberta-based duo Over the Moon will be performing two shows at the Stettler Performing Arts Centre, the first at 1:30 p.m., and the second at 7 p.m.
Craig Bignell, one-half of the duo, describes their music as "cowbilly."
"It's kind of folky, kind of swing, jazzy," said Bignell. "We call it cowbilly because it's kind of like hillbilly and kind of like cowboy swing or singer-songwriter Americana."
The show Bignell, and wife Suzanne, is bringing to Stettler has been seen the world over; the duo regularly performs in Europe and China.
While the duo performs some covers, Bignell says that most of the music they perform is original, and mainly based on the rich history of Alberta.
"We treat the audience like a whole bunch of friends coming over to our living room," said Bignell. "We just have fun with them, sing some songs, (and) tell some stories."
When not on the road performing, the Chauvin, Alta., duo can be found in the Vista Theatre in Hardisty which they purchased and have been turning into a performance space and recording studio over the last year.
Over the Moon is a Juno and Canadian Folk Music Award-nominated duo and currently has three albums available for purchase, with a fourth due out in 2025.
