It’s not yet mid October and the ground is white, but there’s lots of activities within the community that will chase away the winter blues.

With temperatures dropping to minus 14 and over an inch of snow on the ground, it looks like winter has arrived.

Over the next few weeks, as people start to wear a poppy for Remembrance Day on Nov. 11, the Royal Canadian Legion will become very busy and prominent.

October is a busy month for the Stettler Public Library. This month is Canadian Library Month and this is also Parkland Regional Library’s 50th anniversary.

It’s hard to believe: it’s October already and that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. There will be no school for students on Friday, Oct. 9 due to a professional development day for teachers and, of course, Monday, Oct. 12 is the Thanksgiving holiday.

Rain and snow mix over the weekend put yet another stall on harvesting.

It’s that time of year, back to school, and guess what comes with that deal: new staff, new students, Terry Fox Run, Welcome Back Dance, and look your best for picture day was on Sept. 30.

Maybe Mother Nature just needed to remind us that winter is around the corner, sure glad I got my potatoes dug on Saturday.

Fire-Prevention Week is a prime time to celebrate Stettler Regional Fire Rescue and its important role in the community.
