Youth centre Christmas parties attracted many

Happy birthday – Tireless HYC supporter Lloyd Smith (right) enjoyed sharing his birthday cake with HYC members last week.

No pitter patter of little feet,

no shouts of joy or silly squeaks,

just quiet here inside these walls,

waiting for everyone to deck the halls.

But smiling faces will soon return,

with an eagerness to play and learn,

and once again these walls will fill,

with happiness and goodwill.

Last week the HYC wrapped for the holidays in style. All the Christmas parties were well attended, most notably the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) event held last Tuesday evening. BBBS caseworker Leanna Moon was thrilled with the turn out of bigs, littles and their families, and hopes to continue group activities, like this one, into the new year.

Lloyd Smith was honoured Tuesday by the huge turn out at his birthday party put on by the HYC members. Many of the attendees have been with the HYC almost as long as Lloyd has been a supporter, making this event very special to everyone. Tammy Morgan, a Keystone member and HYC staff, remembers Lloyd’s unwavering desire to help local kids even when she was a new member, almost a decade ago. Lloyd says that seeing members like Tammy continue with the HYC and give back to the new members, is why he comes back year after year. Lloyd’s Bowl for Kids will be coming up on Feb. 4 and everyone is encouraged to participate in this fantastic event. Please call the HYC at 742-KIDS(5437) for more information or to register your team.

The HYC will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4, marking the start of another fun year with the HYC.

The staff would like to send a huge thank you and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to the members, parents, board members, and the wonderful volunteers and many supporters in the community. Many wishes for a safe and wondrous holiday season.
