The leader of the Wildrose Alliance, Danielle Smith, visited the high school on Friday afternoon and spoke with students of Mr. Humphreys’ Social 30 classes.

Ms. Smith began by encouraging students to become involved in our democracy and the political process by voting for a party that best represents their beliefs and values. She then discussed the core values of the Wildrose Alliance and touched upon the role of government in the lives of its citizens. Students asked her about spending priorities, equality rights, education, health care and taxation. Students appreciated her sincerity, poise and ability to respond to the questions.

On Thursday, April 8, the Grade 11 English classes listened to a guest speaker. Matt Jackson is a Canadian author of several humorous travel books about his journeys across North America. His entertaining stories and beautiful photographs kept students wrapped with wonder for over an hour. He ended his presentation by inviting audience questions, of which there were many. Students came away with a desire to travel and discover more about our country.

On Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m., we will be hosting a new parent information session. This session will take parents through course offerings at Wm. E. Hay and answer any questions that parents may have.

All students at Wm. E. Hay are participating in a survey entitled “Tell Them From Me” throughout the next two weeks. This survey measures student engagement and will be used throughout our high school flexibility enhancement pilot project over the next three years.
