Yates, Keith families set the standard at fair

The 35th annual Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Society fair and slo-pitch tournament in Byemoor enjoyed great weather on the weekend.

The fair kicked off with a parade Saturday morning and the Byemoor 4-H Beef Club float was named best overall entry.

The bench show saw an increase in exhibitors over last year.

The winners were:

Grand Aggregate: Leslie Campbell-Gallagher; Horticulture & Cereal Crops: Open – Della Kobi; Junior – Daly Brooker; Home Economics: Open – Nola Gutsche; Junior – Callie Tucker; Needlework: Open – Eileen Smyth; Junior – Arya Lyn McDougal; Over 70 – Dot Wasdal; Photography: Open – Erin Prehn; Junior – Carly Bignell; Hobbies – Open – Della Kobi, Junior (tie) – Leslie Campbell-Gallagher and Ashley Keith; Art: Open – Erica Yates; Junior – Sydney Jack; Flowers: Open – Leslie Campbell- Gallagher; Junior – Leslie Campbell-Gallagher.

The family with the most points award was a tie between the Rod Yates family and the Jodi Keith family.

The slo-pitch tournament champions were: A Event –SSV (Greiner’s) over the Wacky Wasdals; B Event – Dickson Cider (Guy Mohn) over Limpsticks and Loose Mitts (Krystal Stulberg); C Event – Almost Heroes (Danny Grover) over Chicken Hawks (Stettler team); D Event – Shweaty Mitts (Trochu team) over Red Necks (Dave Nixon).

New this year to the fair was the kids’ carnival at the arena. It proved to be a popular addition.

Paige Jones and her boys, Rowdy and Memphis, are back from a trip to Cape Breton Island, N.S., where they visited with Paige’s family.

The Stettler library will offer a new service, beginning in September. A monthly visit to Byemoor will bring books to people who have a difficult time accessing the library in Stettler. Those books will be picked up the following month.

Keep in mind that the bridal shower for Kary Swedberg, the future bride of Tyson Keith, on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Byemoor hall. Women are asked to bring lunch.

Sorry that we don’t have much news this week, but we were visiting the Rocky Mountains for a break between haying and harvest.
