Whining parents lose hockey game to 4-H’ers

Happy New Year, everyone!

The Erskine 4-H Beef Club held their annual Christmas get together at the barn of the Squires.

We went skating on their homemade ice. The kids got to beat up on the parents who whined about the big turkey dinners they indulged in over the holidays.

After we took mercy on the parents, we got off the ice and played a game of “name that animal part”, we thought the game was going to get the best of us for a while, but in the end we pulled together as a team and it was not so hard. Who knew there was a crop on a steer?

Our meeting covered a lot of upcoming dates and application deadlines. Jan. 8 is regional fun day, Red Deer Rebels game is Feb. 19, and junior winter camp is Feb. 25-27. More information can be found on www.4h.ab.ca .

A Chinese gift exchange rounded out our afternoon. It took a while for the stealing of gifts to begin, but once the fire was lit, look out. All the kids got wonderful gifts and even though the season is over according to the calendar, I see many twinkles of magic left for this club!

Our next meeting is Feb. 7 at the barn. See you there.
