Wedding season in full swing

HALKIRK HERALD -- The Elks met on June 7 and held their installation of officers for the ensuing year. Dan Fowler is the new Exalted Ruler, with Dennis Cordel stepping in to the Past ER position. Leading Knight is Rocky Dalmer; Lecturing Knight is Doreen Blumhagen and Loyal Knight is Tony Nibourg. John deMos remains as secretary-treasurer. Rae-Anne Cordel takes the position of Esquire; Henry Gorman is the new Tyler and Jacquie Dietrich is Chaplin. Trustees are Charles Muncy, Matt Koenraadt and Terry Vockeroth. Our Elks club remains very active in the community supporting all local groups throughout the area. They will be co-hosting a BBQ at the Mother Teresa School on June 24 starting at 11:30, this will be for students, community members and alumni.

A pat on the back to our students who raised $ 1021.75 for the Heart and Stroke fund during their "jump rope for heart" fund raiser.

Several students were entered at the CARA track meet in Stettler last Wednesday and our school placed fourth out of 10 in total added points. Abby, Bailey, Brooklyn, Devon, Logan and McKenna were among the top finishers. Congratulations to all.

The Doan family held a reunion at the Circle Square last weekend with about 90 folks representing 25 or 26 families. All of the children of Muff and Bernice, Melva and Ron Mabbott, Patsy and Bob Hawking, Phil and Jane Doan, Donna and Lee Thulien, Merle and Belma Doan and Bernie and Bernice Doan, were present as were almost all of their children. They played and sang with archery, low ropes, horseback riding, hiking, a scavenger hunt, a skit, a campfire and a church service.

Congratulations to Megan Elsasser and Chris Clark, who were married on Saturday, June 11 in our little community church in Halkirk. The reception and dance followed at the hall. Megan is the oldest daughter of Ross and Dawn Elsasaer. They will make their home in Lac La Biche.

Congratulations to Steven Boxma and Rebecca Gano, who were married at the Circle Square Ranch on June 11 with a reception held at the Castor Community Hall. Steven is the youngest son of Angie and the late Clarence Boxma. They will make their home north of Stettler in the Whitesands/Pheasant Back area.

Congratulations to Lyndsey Howe and Errol Broger, who were married in Bashaw on Saturday. Lyndsey works in the Scotia Bank in Stettler and Errol is a teacher in Camrose. They live on an acreage near Bashaw. Lyndsey is the daughter of Gerald Howe and Debbie Schilling.

The Gamroths are busy building again. Very Important Pets is almost ready to open their new kennels which will give them 17 dog runs and 2 cat runs. Jacey is home for the summer from Augustana University to help her folks as well as do other odd jobs.

For the month of June, Silja Ruegger is staying with Darrel and Wendy Ashbacher. Silja is from Zurich, Switzerland. At the end of June, Silja's boyfriend will be joining her and do a bit of travel before heading back home.
