Here we are into September and farmers are still in the process of trying to get their hay up, while traditionally in a normal year, they would be harvesting by now. This cool, wet year is most unusual for this area, making everything much later. Hopefully we will get an Indian summer yet.
The Hanna Old Time Band provided some afternoon entertainment at the Byemoor Fair this year. In lieu of charging, they just asked for donations to STARS.
They appreciated the opportunity to entertain and were grateful to the generous folks who donated $110 to STARS, a very worthy cause indeed.
Recent visitors with Irene Brooker were her daughter Brenda Ziegler of Hardisty and granddaughter Kourtney Ziegler of Lloydminster.
Les and Rosemary Stulberg enjoyed a visit from Rosemary’s cousin Ken and Renee Diprose of St. Albert last week.
School doors opened at the Byemoor School Sept. 1 with enrolment up slightly.
Much of the staff are the same as last year with principal Corey van Zandbergen, teachers Derrick Hatch and Gwen Keith, teacher-aides Luann Buchwitz and Erin Wilkie (new to the staff this year), while the secretary-librarian is Linda Kobi. Bus drivers once again are Deanna Johnson, Sandra Keith and Anita Mappin.
Entering grade one this year are Morgan Claypool, Laurel Hutton, Annika MacDonald and Riley Mappin.
Local ball players participated in slo-pitch tournaments on the long weekend at Content Bridge and Gadsby.
Power crews have been in the district during the latter part of summer replacing several power lines with new poles, which has resulted in some power outages but should ensure better long term service.
Anyone interested in participating in some evening volleyball games once a week in Byemoor this fall and winter remember to contact Rick Laak at 579-2404 or Theresa Christie at 579-2133 as soon as possible so they know if there are enough participants to get this organized.
