Valentine’s dance not to be missed

The School Reach team, a competitive ‘trivia’ club that takes part in competitions much like the game show Jeopardy, have started off their season in Ponoka with two senior teams.

Teacher advisor (TA) groups were busy getting in the spirit of Valentine’s Day by pairing up with students in the elementary classes. Mrs. Goodwin’s class worked with Mrs. Thorne’s kindergarten class and Mrs. Jackson’s Grade 1 class to decorate Valentine’s cookies. Mrs. Klevgaard’s TA class paired up with Mrs. Sylvester’s Grade 1 class to make Valentine’s and took the Grade 1 class Valentine’s presents. Mrs. Shepherd’s TA class helped Mrs. Norman’s kindergarten class deliver their Valentine’s cards. The high school students thoroughly enjoyed their experience as always.

Mrs. Goodwin’s English 10 students are visiting Mrs. Fischer and Mr. Howell’s classes to more thoroughly understand ten year old children - what concerns them, what they think should be done in the world today etc. This is in conjunction with the Grade 10 students’ study of Who Has Seen the Wind by W.O. Mitchell.

The students’ union sold ‘matchmaker’ forms this week. Earlier in the semester students completed surveys and then were ‘matched’ with other students in the school based on the results of their surveys. The students’ union is also hosting a Valentine’s Day dance on Friday, Feb. 19.

Parents are invited to attend the next school council meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in the staff room. Also a reminder to check out our new school website for daily memos, news, pictures and announcements from the high school.

That’s all for this week, please stay tuned next week for more news from Wm. E. Hay.
