July weather in September — that is what it seemed like when temperatures hit more than 30 degrees last week. The hot weather was great for harvest, but came to an abrupt end Sunday when cooler weather blew in.

Allison, Erica and Rachel Yates were the guest speakers at Gadsby’s Decoration Day held at the Omega Cemetery. They did an excellent job and it’s great to see the girls put their 4-H skills to good use.

Congratulations to Walter Schuler, a former Endiang resident, who celebrated his 87th birthday Sept. 5. We wish you many more happy birthdays, Walter.

Also on Sept. 5, Wes and Karen Gutsche celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Congratulations, and hope you enjoyed your day.

Kary Lyn Swedberg, future bride of Tyson Keith, was honoured with a bridal shower Tuesday evening at the Byemoor hall. She received a huge assortment of beautiful gifts from the many ladies in attendance. Kary and Tyson will be married Oct. 8 in Stettler.

On Thursday evening, Samantha Grainger, bride-to-be of Greg Gallagher, was the guest of honour at a bridal shower at the Byemoor hall. She also received many lovely gifts. Samantha and Greg will be married Oct. 1 at the Gallagher residence near Byemoor.

We extend sympathy to Linda (nee Smith) Conners and family on the passing of her husband Stan Conners on Sept. 4 at the age of 59 years. Stan fought a courageous battle with cancer. His funeral was held Friday at Duchess.

A truck fire northeast of Endiang on Saturday had the neighbourhood concerned as the black smoke could be seen for miles around as it billowed high into the sky. Lee Tucker’s truck caught fire and burned up on the road south of Schellenberg’s.

The Hutterites from the Byemoor Colony were the first on the scene with their water truck, followed by the Byemoor fire department, which kept the blaze from spreading to the nearby fields. Luckily, there were no injuries.

Congratulations to Mickey Tucker, who celebrated her 75th birthday Saturday. We wish you many more happy birthdays, Mickey.

Congratulations to Allan Norlie and Kelsey Balazic, who were married Saturday at the Norlie ranch, with the reception and dance held at the Byemoor hall.

Allan is the son of Jim and Marylin (nee Graham) Norlie of Craigmyle and the grandson of Bill Graham of Byemoor and Ida Norlie of Hanna. We wish the newlyweds all the best in their married life.

The service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Byemoor on Sunday saw the baptism of Bennett Nixon, son of Gregg and Tara Nixon, grandson of Dave and Lynne Nixon and great-grandson of Dave and Betty Nixon. Also baptized were Ryder, Bronc and Colter Buchwitz, sons of Kirk and Twila Buchwitz, grandsons of Robert and Sheila Buchwitz and great-grandsons of Nat and Alvina Buchwitz.

Stuart and Kayla Somerville are home from a 10-day trip to Iceland, where Kayla participated in a marathon.

There will be a bridal shower for Dixie Jones, bride-elect of Curtis Zorn, on Sept. 23 at the Byemoor hall at 7:30 p.m. Ladies are asked to please bring lunch.

Keep in mind the live professional wrestling coming to the Endmoor arena in Byemoor on Friday. Tickets are available at the door. Doors open at 8:15 p.m., with the wrestling to begin at 9 p.m.
