Trophies brought from track meet

Waste roundup was held on Saturday with many people participating, keeping lots of hazardous waste out of our dump. Shayla Schilling will be the new STEP student with the town this year. She will be working in July and August.

Several of our Grade 1 to 6 students brought home trophies from the trackmeet held at Burma Park, with the Brownfield school as hosts, last Thursday. Colter Stirling, Grade 1 boys – standing broad and dash; Aspen Johnson, Grade 2 girls – standing broad and dash; Addison Charbonneau, Grade 3 girls – high jump; Sage Gonda, Grade 5 girls – high jump; Zach Schilling, Grade 6 boys – target throw.

Congratulations to our Halkirk students who graduated this weekend. Castor's Grade 12 students were honored on Friday evening. Katelyn Dahmer had special guests including Ralph and Norma Stock from near Gull Lake, Sk.; grandma Hazel from Leduc; grandpa Bill and Susan from Red Deer and honorary aunt Lisa from Rocky. Hailey Grice gathered her family for a BBQ party at the home of grandparents, Gordon and Pat Grice, in Castor prior to the ceremonies. Simon Muncy's grandparents Phil and Doris Dietz and Kathy Muncy were present at the Friday night Gala and on Saturday a lunch for family members was held at Charles and Bernita's home. Dave and Linda Chick's granddaughter, Geri Slemp was among the graduands and the Slemp/Chick families gathered last Saturday to celebrate. Also graduating was George and Margret Rowland's granddaughter, Tia. George and Margret have just moved into their new home in Lethbridge and we extend our best wishes to them.

Stettler's grad ceremonies were held on Saturday afternoon. Morgan Kent had her grandparents, Dale and Melody Kent and Joy Walker as well as her aunt Lana and cousins Sarah and Emily from Saskatchewan at the ceremonies. A BBQ was held for their family at Rick and Lisa's in the evening. Shayla Schilling had her grandmas, Barb Schilling and Cherrone Ziemmer, attending the ceremony and following that the family gathered with her uncle and aunt, Chuck and Jean for a family supper. We also send congratulations out to Brian Kent, grandson of Dale and Melody, who graduated in Camrose recently.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Cindy Jackson, her mom Ardeth and her brother Barry and Carol, Levi and Hannah, from the Paintearth district, who passed away on May 25 in Stettler hospital. Services are on June 1 at the United Church in Castor.

We also extend sympathy to the family of Lyle Potter from the Gadsby area who passed away on May 23 in Stettler. At Lyle's request, there is no public service.

We welcome to our community Jesse and Tanya Lefebvre and their family of Reece, Micah, Mia and Jadyn who have moved to the Circle Square Ranch where Jesse is the new year-round program director. Jesse's parents are Sandi and the late Gary Lefebvre, who were the first ranch directors back in the late 70's.

All of the family of Kay and Ernie Kneeland, Rod, Faye, Joy, Donna, Les and Tracey and their spouses were present to help their uncle, Joe Knowles of Stettler, celebrate his 80th birthday at the Pioneer Lodge in Red Deer last Saturday. Joe is the last one of their mom Kay's siblings.

Kassie Gamroth celebrated her ninth birthday with a party for her school friends, Ella May Perry, Aspen Johnson, Reece Lefebvre, Casey Gonda and Addison Charbonneau. They went swimming and had a pizza party at the pool in Stettler last Friday.

Rose & Jan Koenraadt spent the long weekend with friends camping at Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan.

Coming events: June 4 – Bridal shower for Kourtney Schilling at the hall at 2 p.m.; June 8 – Jump rope for heart at the school; June 8 to 11 – Alberta Elks' convention in Hanna; June 20 – Awards night at the school.
