Endiang Enterprise
By Rosemary and Les Stulberg
The much awaited treated water is flowing in Endiang. As of last Monday, Endiang is receiving water through the Starland-Stettler Regional line coming up from Craigmyle to Byemoor and Endiang. With the problems experienced earlier this summer with Endiang’s sole water well, the assurance of a stable water supply is most welcome. Byemoor’s connection will follow in August.
The community extends sympathy to the Mohn and Donald families on the passing of long-time Endiang resident Beatrice (Pudge) Mohn on July 22 at the age of 87 years in Stettler. Pudge was one of ten children born to Endiang pioneers Jim and Jean Donald. Pudge married Ben Mohn and they farmed west of Endiang where they raised their family of four children. Pudge was active in community affairs, especially the community hall, 4-H clubs and sports in her younger years. Her husband Ben was a county councilor for several terms. Our thoughts are with her family, sons Don (Ivy) Mohn, Chris (Vicki) Mohn, Wayne (Susan) Mohn and daughter Linda (Russ) Kobi, her grandchildren, her brothers Cliff Donald and Ed (Hilda) Donald, sisters Mary Langston and Jeanette (Ken) Hayes, other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Pudge was held in Endiang on Monday with interment at the Endiang Cemetery. This fine lady will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Irene Brooker was a recent visitor to Hardisty to visit her daughter Brenda and Ernie Ziegler.
Congratulations to Ryley Grantham of Hanna on being signed with the Calgary Flames hockey team. This story has an Endiang connection as Ryley’s mother Debbie was raised at Endiang, the daughter of Ken and Betty Halverson. Also Ryley’s grandmothers Ida (nee Nill) Nitschke and Betty (nee Schultz) Halverson were also raised in the south Endiang area. Best of luck to Ryley for a successful NHL career.
There have been a number of Castor seniors visiting Endiang as of late. On July 16, there were 20 seniors from the Paintearth Lodge visiting Endiang for an afternoon outing. Among those attending were former Endiang residents Louie and Fern Engel and Anne Schellenberg. Then on July 23, there were 12 seniors from Extended Care travelled to Endiang, again to enjoy an outing and pie and coffee. This group included former Endiang resident Alice Keibel.
We send a message of sympathy to the family of Edith Bates who passed away in Stettler on July 22. Edith and her late husband Cecil farmed for many years in the Victor district. Our thoughts are with her family Jim (Shirley) Bates and Carol (Dale) Nixon and their families.
