The Christmas season is quickly approaching and with it comes the stress and expectations that can leave parents struggling to enjoy all the fun that the season brings. With a few easy changes your family can get back to basics for a simpler, stress-free Christmas.

1. Stay organized- making a plan and sticking to it can help focus your energy, prioritize the things that are important to your family, and give you the chance to carve out some much-needed down time. Involve the whole family when creating your plan- it’s always fun to hear what holiday traditions stand out in your kids’ minds, and gives you a clue to what things might not be missed.

2. Choose quality over quantity- kids can easily become overwhelmed by all the activity of Christmas and the same is true for gifts. Meaningful moments and thoughtful gifts get lost in the flurry of activity, but taking time to slow down and savor the magic moments of Christmas not only makes memories that will last a lifetime, but is good for your budget too! Instead of shopping for a gift for the grandparents try involving the kids by making a yummy treat or handmade craft as a gift. Or instead of giving up your family time on Christmas Day to cook a feast, turn Christmas dinner into a potluck. Small changes can have big effects!

3. Try something new- Are you expected to host a big family dinner that blows your budget and leaves you stressed? Do you have multiple events and get-togethers that have you running from place to place? Is your shopping list longer than Santa’s naughty list? Take this opportunity to make new traditions that simplify your life and put the focus on what matter most- spending quality time with your loved ones.
