It’s time to celebrate Canada’s birthday, 156 years of this land becoming one nation.
We are partnering with Town of Stettler, Stettler & District FCSS, Stettler Town & County Museum, the Government of Canada, Sobeys, ATCO, No Frills, and ATB Financial to bring you a great Canada Day!
Start the fun family Canada Day activities this Saturday at the Stettler Museum with a pancake breakfast for $8 per plate from 9-11 a.m. Following that satisfying meal, there’ll be free admission to the museum and afternoon activities.
Bring the whole family and find out all about battle axes, a blow-up obstacle course and the ball pit. For kids, there will be face painting, a bouncy castle, a scavenger hunt, crafts and more!
Have your family’s picture taken at the photo booth and if you get hungry again, free hot dogs will be available.
Once evening comes, bring your own lawn chairs and treat yourselves to a cupcake at the West Stettler Park Gazebo at 7 p.m.
Then settle in to listen to The Boss Hill Band’s outdoor musical concert at 8 p.m.
To cap off the day of celebration, there will be fireworks at dusk.
In case of rain, all events will be held at the Rec Centre.

With school out, you need a plan! Why not enroll in our fun-packed, discovery-rich, curiosity-satisfying Summer Reading Program – Check it Out?
Starting Mon, July 3, we’ll have daily games, crafts, and other great activities to get you creating and exploring.
On Mondays and Tuesdays, the Sunshine Squad (ages 5-8) meets for morning activities from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the Curiosity Crew (ages 9 and up) from 2:30-4 p.m.
On Wednesday mornings, the program moves to Rochon Sands for all the kids out there. Throughout the summer, be sure to keep track of the time you spend reading to earn a chance to win some of the exciting prizes we’ll be awarding at the end of the summer – a Nintendo Switch Lite, hoverboard, Roblox gift card, or Lego set.
Our popular Kids Cooking Club will be back on Wednesday afternoons at 3 p.m. teaching kids of all ages to create a variety of culinary treats. And yes, tasting is allowed!
Next week, on Wed, July 5, we’ll be making Italian subs and edible brownie batter. Registration for each session opens on Wednesday morning of the week before and spaces fill up fast, so sign up early.
On Thursday mornings, youngsters of all ages can develop their green thumbs by growing good things to eat in our on-site garden beds with the Gardening Club, running from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Thursday afternoons at 3:00 is Crafty Thursday, again for all ages.
Each Friday, bring the whole family to our Family Events. Details will vary so check our library website (spl.prl.ab.ca) or watch our Facebook page for information on dates, times, and suitable attire: Mark your calendar for next week, Fri, July 7 when we’ll offer a Movie Matinee and Swim Day. Come see the new Super Mario Bros. movie at 11:30 a.m. and, if you like, stay for a free swim at the pool. Please pre-register.
Looking for a way to foster an early love of reading in your little ones? Read & Rhyme is a fun exploration of books and words, songs and rhymes for children 0-5 years and their parents. We meet every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 10:30 and welcome anyone with young children to join us!
Adults:
Al-Anon is a support group for those who are close to someone who drinks excessively. Everyone is welcome to the Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. meetings for tips, support, and encouragement.
For adults who enjoy crafts, games, and other fun activities in the company of others, why not join us for Afternoon Friends on Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m? On Tue, July 4, we’ll enjoy a matinee movie together. We always have a great time and welcome others!
Light up the summer sky with the beautiful luminaries you’ll make at Crystal’s Crafting Club on Thu, July 6, at 6:30 p.m. Call ahead to book your spot.
Take a walk through downtown Stettler to discover the grisly history of the heart of Alberta. Two Ghost Walks will take place next week: Fri, July 7, or Sat, July 8, at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, for ages 10 and up. Limited spaces are available so register early.
Reader’s Circle Book Club choice for July is Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, a novel Vanity Fair calls “…wonderfully creepy…blending chilling scenes of horror with classic Gothic tropes.” Pick up a copy at the library and join us for a lively discussion on Tue, July 25 at 6:30 p.m.
All Ages:
Check it Out’s first family event of the summer is coming up on July 7. Bring the whole family to enjoy the new Super Mario Bros. movie at 11:30 a.m., followed by a free swim at the pool from 1-3 p.m. We’ll provide themed snacks and popcorn. Come for both events or drop into just one but please preregister by calling the library. (Children under 9 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the swim.)
Bring the whole family and your favourite teddy bear and meet us at the Memorial Park Gazebo on 50 Avenue by the High School for our annual Teddy Bear Picnic celebration on Mon, July 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. We’ve planned games, songs, stories, crafts, and snacks. Don’t forget your hats, water, and sunscreen.
With time off from school, sports, and the rest of the winter schedule, summer is perfect for getting around to tackling those old photo slides and videos.
Spend a few hours at the library updating them to digital with our technology and you’ll preserve them forever. And if you have DVDs or CDs that are scratched or dirty, we can buff them for you, for $2 a disc.
