Time to get ready for the Sullivan Lake Fair

Finally, the district has received its first good rainfall of the year. Last week, most areas received around one-and-a-half to two inches of rain. The long overdue rain was so welcome. Pastures are beginning to green up and there is now at least hope for getting some feed.

We forgot to mention that Daryl and Katherine (nee Webber) Snider of Red Deer passed through the Endiang district a couple of weeks ago on their motorcycles. They were en route to Virginia, where they were going to visit their daughter. Katherine is the youngest daughter of Charlie and Kay Webber, who once lived in the Endiang district where Jim and Maureen Wasdal now live.

Many rodeo and chuckwagaon fans from our district attended the stampedes at Ponoka and Calgary in the past weeks.

Congratulations to Cory Dittman and Jennifer Knowles of Calgary on the birth of their third son, Milo Jude Carter Dittman on July 9. He weighed six pounds 10 ounces and is welcomed by big brothers Tristan and Leland. Congratulations also to the grandparents Lyle and Shannon Knowles and great-grandmas Lois Ballinger and May Knowles.

Many family and friends from our area travelled to St. Paul on the weekend for the wedding of Gregg Nixon and Tara Ostapiw. Gregg is the son of Dave and Lynne (nee Walker) Nixon of Byemoor. We send our congratulations to this fine young couple with best wishes for a long and happy marriage. The newlyweds will be making their home in Okotoks.

Recent visitors to the area were Lio Kiefer and Isabelle Chagnon and their daughter Taina Kiefer from Raudon, Quebec (near Montreal). While in Alberta they visited the Calgary Stampede, Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Banff, Lake Louise and Endiang; in-other-words, all the highlights of Alberta.

Doris Schilling had her grandchildren Erica and Jared Steinwand of Castor spend a few days with her, while they painted the trim on her house.

Lee Hunt had her granddaughter Jenean Paetkau of Gem spend a few days with her.

Keep in mind the 33rd annual Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Fair is coming up on Aug. 15 in Byemoor. Be sure to be getting your entries ready for the bench show and parade. The weekend will also include a slo-pitch tournament.

Remember the camp-out and pancake breakfast goes this weekend, July 17-19 at the farm of Ken and Eleanor Schultz.

Birthday greetings go out to: July 17 – Wayne Gallagher, Erin Grams and Joan (Schultz) Mohl, July 18 – Don Grover, July 19 – Lynn (Gallagher) Anderson, Danny Grams and John Kisser, July 20 – Bunnie Boehlke (her 94th) and Val Schultz, July 21 – Gordon Duncan, July 23 – Ervin Hausher and Steven Boehlke.

Happy 64th wedding anniversary Togre Nat and Alvina Buchwitz on July 22.
