Time for year-end field trips

Stettler Elementary School is very proud of the Grade 2 classes of Mrs. Annette Hunter and Mrs. Donna Boyd-Stadelmann as they attended the provincial music festival for choral speech this past Friday. The students were awarded an 88 with distinction for their presentation. A lot of work and preparation was put into the piece and it was a great honor to be able to compete at the provincial level.

As June and the end of the school year approaches, classes at Stettler Elementary are in the midst of preparing for their year end field trips.

On Friday, June 18, the kindergarten classes will be heading to the Collicutt Center in Red Deer for swimming and a picnic. This will be the last school day for the E.C.S. classes, as the following week the teachers will be hosting the new kindergarten students for their orientation days.

If your soon-to-be kindergartener has not yet signed up for an orientation day, be sure to register at the Stettler Elementary School office so that they do not miss out on this opportunity to tour the school and meet the teachers.

Grade 2 classes will be taking a step back in time at the Markerville Creamery.

On Tuesday, May 25 the Grade 3 students went to Circle Square Ranch for their year-end field trip. They enjoyed many activities including horse back riding, hay rides, archery, wall climbing, and an obstacle course with a zip line.

As usual, the parent volunteers were wonderful as were the staff at Circle Square Ranch. A great time was had by all.

To help learn about some of Alberta’s history, the Grade 4s had the opportunity to explore the train cars on the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions. Grade 4 classes are also looking forward to their trips to the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin. They will also be rewarded for all of their hard work recycling paper and juice boxes throughout the year with a swimming party during the last week of school.

The Grade 5 classes celebrated the end of their school career at Stettler elementary with their Legacy Luncheon this past Friday. After enjoying a wonderful meal, the students each got to select a book that will be placed in the school library in their honor.

Grade 5s will soon be making their annual trek out to Circle Square Ranch to enjoy a week filled with camping and a host full of activities.

In addition, the phys-ed team of Mrs. Kim Poapst and Mr. Mike Roach are organizing fun days for the primary students and track meets for the older students also coming up towards the end of June.

Our congratulations go out to our music teacher, Miss Amanda Hugh, who has accepted a job in Cold Lake as their new middle school band teacher. We all wish her well in this new endeavor.
