Congratulations go out to the loonie pot winner at last week’s Bingo.

BOTHA BOOSTER -- Congratulations go out to the loonie pot winner at last week’s Bingo. The next Bingo evening will be next Wednesday evening starting at 7:15 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Floor curling is every Thursday at 1 p.m. and will continue throughout the summer months just as long as the interest keeps up, so please keep the attendance up for this.

Continuing from last week’s column on the history of the Old-Thyme Dance Club, let’s continue as this is a very interesting subject for some people.

Irwin’s sister, Dora Sharpe, taught a dance, which was called the Little Drops of Brandy (similar to the Virginia Reel.) They also did the square dance, as well as having caller who were Clarence and John Baird besides Henry Neilson, so everyone had fun. The types of square dances the group did besides the Little Drops of Brandy were the Snapenine Twist, Birds in the Cage, Eight Hands Rounds and Swing Like Thunder.

The first president of this group was Bruce Ball, than Halley Gridley and now Doug Haustein.

As the crowd grew, so did the music with different bands who were hired which was great for the club having different varieties of music. The bands were Five Plus One, Grassroots, Al Womacks, Randy Jones, West Country 4, Westlake Echoes and Grety Valley Band taking their turns entertaining the crowds. Since that time a different band plays once per month.

In the 1990s, this group donated 500 dollars to the Botha Hall for new tables, which I’m sure the Botha Community Committee appreciated, as these are the ones that people sat at and visited while others got up and danced to the music.

Nowa days, bands are hired from Edmonton, Calgary, Delburne, Concert, Sedgwick with great names to their bands, which are the Old-Thyme Aires, Country Gentlemen, Sparkling Tones, Country Gems, Ralph and Friends, Barbwire, East West Connection and the Western Sunsettlers, all fantastic bands. So when the Old-Tyme Dance Club starts up again in the fall Sept. 26, at 1:30 p.m., you will not want to miss out on all the fun. These dances run from September to the end of June each year, so please plan to attend every dance through out the year, and there is no age limit on these dances so everyone can join in the fun.If you would like to know anymore about the upcoming dances next season. call Doug Haustein at 403-742-3994 or John Blonski at 403-574-2197. This group also helps at fundraisers so please contact one of these gentleman and see if they can help you out.

Don’t forget coffee is ready and waiting at the seniors’ centre every Wednesday at 10 a.m., so make sure you join the group that morning for some great conversation, they would love to see you.
