We will be celebrating Family Literacy Day next week on January 27th.

Keeping up your literacy skills is important no matter what your age is!

Gaining and maintaining your literacy skills means benefits to your general well-being, such as reduced stress, help with sleep readiness and the prevention of cognitive decline as you age.

For the team at the Stettler Public Library, reading for 15 has a different meaning: provincial domination!

The Stettler Public Library will be in competition with other libraries around the province to get the most people to read for 15 minutes on Jan. 27, 2022.

It doesn’t matter what you read. It can be your Facebook feed, your e-mails, a magazine, a book or a crochet pattern. Read for 15 minutes, and then call us at 403-742-2292 on Jan. 27 to let us know you did it!

We are looking to have as many people in the community take part. The more people who take part the better chance Stettler can be named “most readerly”.

One great way to get your 15 minutes in with your family is to join us for a Bedtime Story Time at 6 p.m. on Jan. 27.

Come dressed in your jammies for some great stories to help wind down your day.

The Stettler Family Resource Network will be joining us for an activity and you can even bring your favourite stuffed animal with you!

We will send you home with a snack to enjoy. All that we ask is that you pre-register for this event with us.

Brain Train is very excited to have Red Hot Science join us again on Jan. 22 at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1 p.m.

We will explore pollinators with them and find out what all the buzz is about. This is for ages 6 and up and we ask that you pre-register because spaces are limited.

Something Cool After School is putting the fun back into geometry on Jan. 25 and Jan. 27 at 4 p.m.

Grab your ruler and use your math skills to create a geometric animal.

Can you create a rabbit or cat with straight lines? Join in the fun and find out! Please call to pre-register.

Calling all ‘tweens and teens to join Teen Scene on Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

This week we are having a Perler Bead Bonanza. If you can dream it, you can design it.

Get creative! Teen Scene welcomes all ages 10 and up; call the Library to register.

Reader’s Circle will be diving into the latest novel by Kazuo Ishiguro on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

“Klara and the Sun” expands on Ishiguro’s theme of what it means to be not-quite human, exploring love and loyalty through the eyes of an android. Pick up a copy or we can place a hold on one for you, and ask us to send you the Zoom link.

The next kit for Crystal’s Craft Club will be available on Jan. 27.

Bring Love into the room with yarn and cardboard and create a simple and beautiful conversation starter when you pick up the Love Yarn Wall Art kit. These are limited; call the Library to reserve yours today.

Put Feb. 7 or Feb. 10 on your calendar and come on down to Sesame Street.

Actually, come on down to the Jewel Theatre for our next Film Circuit showing which is a wonderful documentary on the beginnings of Sesame Street called “Street Gang”.

Tickets are available at the Library until Feb. 5 and are $10 each.

You can also purchase them at the door on the nights of the showings. This movie was originally scheduled for October but had to be postponed.

If you had purchased tickets for it in October, those tickets will be honoured.

Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead.

Remember that the staff team at the Stettler Public Library is always ready to help you with whatever you need: a new book suggestion, printing off government documents, or assistance in finding help from a community agency.

We are at the ready.

Call the Library at 403-742-2292 or go to our website (spl.prl.ab.ca).

Also check out our Facebook page for the latest updates. We look forward to seeing you!
