The latest from Stettler Public Library

By Crystal Friars

April starts tomorrow and that is no joke.

The fourth month of year is upon us already. How did that happen? Time is flying so fast but we are having fun at the Stettler Public Library. We have had so many wonderful programs already this year but you should see what we have planned for the first week of April.

Brain Train pulls into the Library on Sat, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. with Mad Motors. We will explore homo-polar motors and you will get to build your own! Space is limited; register today.

The TIFF Film Circuit is back at the Jewel Theatre on Mon, April 4 and Thurs, April 7 at 7 p.m. with the movie The Humans.

Based on the Tony Award winning play by Stephen Karam, this film follows the course of a family gathering at Thanksgiving.

As darkness falls outside, mysterious things start to go bump in the night and family tensions reach a boiling point.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the Library until April 2 or at the door on the nights of the show. We hope to see you at the movies.

Something Cool After School is getting into gardening mode by making plant-able paper. Get ready for spring gardening by making some seed paper that you can plant! Keep it for yourself or send to a friend.

Join us on Tues, April 5 and Thurs April 7 at 4 p.m. for some messy fun. Call the Library today to register because spaces are quickly running out.

We haven’t forgotten about the teens and ‘tweens in our community. Our weekly get-together will now take place on Thursdays.

Please join us on Thurs, April 7 at 6 p.m. for a DIY event where we make something that we will always need: coasters. We will be creating an array of different and unique coasters for you to keep or give as gifts. Call the Library to register.

There is also something for the littlest members of our community on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:30 am: Read and Rhyme.

We will tell a few stories, sing some songs, learn some rhymes and just have fun! This is geared to children ages 0-5 with their families. Come and join the fun!

You have until 6 p.m., Sat, April 2 for you to bring in your gently enjoyed books and movies (no encyclopedias or textbooks, please) for the Friends of the Library’s Giant Book Sale, then come and peruse the many gems for taking on Fri, April 8 and Sat, April 9.

Clean off those shelves so you can bring home new treasures found at the Giant Book Sale.

The Stettler Trade Show is returning from Fri, April 8 to Sun, April 10 and the Stettler Public Library team is looking forward to seeing everyone at the show.

We hope that you will drop by to say hello to our wonderful team and fill out a quick survey for a chance to win some incredible library swag.

We will have the VR set up for the young (and young at heart) and hope to unveil our new Plan of Service for 2022-2026 there.

For information about any of our programs or to register for events, call the Library at 403-742-2292.

If you are looking for assistance with technology, finding that next great page turner, movie, or information about different services and organizations in the community, stop by or call us and we can help you out.

Don’t forget to check out our website (spl.prl.ab.ca) for other services and events coming up and follow us on Facebook for the latest news and other fun stuff!
