Time for a breather – Sheldon Bridge is seen taking a well-deserved rest from practice showing with his market steer “Tanner” during the mock achievement day of the Erskine 4-H beef club.

SHELDON BRIDGE/Erskine 4-H club reporter

April was a busy month for Erskine 4-H beef club.

Some of our members were able to attend cattle shows in Olds, Bashaw, and Claresholm.

They learned about showmanship and presentation in the ring and even got some tips on grooming.

Our bottle drive was held on April 17 and we raised $1500. Thank you to everyone who donated bottles.

Mock achievement day was used and it was the calm before the storm, so to speak. All the members were able to attend and most brought their calves. Senior members Joy and Jill showed us how to clip and wash our steers. We practiced our judging skills and got some tips on what to look for in both market steers and breeding females.

The club would like to invite everyone down to Byemoor May 23 and 24 to see our calves. Show starts at 9:30 a.m. and sale is to follow at 7 p.m.
