Summer programs at the library will see changes

Summer has arrived at the Stettler Public Library. I know that you are all going “How can that be? The first day of summer hasn’t shown up on the calendar yet.”

Summer has arrived at the Stettler Public Library. I know that you are all going “How can that be? The first day of summer hasn’t shown up on the calendar yet.”

Well, for us, summer does arrive when our summer students start their jobs. We would like to welcome back Stephanie, who will be running our summer program, and Patty, who is physically moving the library around one book at a time. It is great to have you back for the summer.

I have just mentioned that Patty is moving the library around one book at a time. Well, she is actually done and we would like to thank everybody who has dropped in and helped Patty and the rest of the staff move the collections around to their new homes within the library. And because of the changes, the Stettler library would like to invite you all to come to our open house on Thursday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Come on in, get a tour of the library, have a cup of coffee and a nibble and let us know what you think of the changes. But if you need help at any time finding something at the Stettler Public Library, please ask us and we will help you find your way.

Stephanie is back to run the summer program and we have a great theme this year. Destination Jungle will be hitting the Library on July 5. The format for the summer program is changing this year, so watch this column for further details. We are also in need of some craft supplies for this year’s program. They are items that you find in your household everyday and we would like donations of socks, face paint, toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, clothes pins and buttons. If you would be willing to donate any of the articles for program, Stephanie would be grateful.

An item that we discovered in the process of our move is that we are in need of a baby change table here at the Stettler Public Library. If you have one that you no longer need and would be willing to donate to the Stettler Public Library, please contact us at 403.742.2292 or spl@libs.prl.ab.ca. With any donation made to the Stettler Public Library, you qualify for a tax receipt.

We are pleased to have the Paint-it-Kids Art Show on display here at the Library until the end of May. The Stettler Public Library is very pleased to be the host of a very special art show and gala opening. With the guidance of Vivian Bennett, the kids of the Heartland Youth Centre have created some wonderful pieces of art that I am sure that you will enjoy.

The last Storytime until September will be on Saturday, May 15 at 11:15 a.m. I can’t believe that it is already this time of year but it is. I have had just a good time this year with Storytime, so I hope that everybody will join me.

We bid a sad farewell to Wendy Babatunde, who is leaving her employment here at the Stettler Public Library. We have enjoyed our time working with Wendy and we wish her the best of luck in her new position at the Stettler Independent.
