Summer fun gets underway at the library

Play is the word at the Stettler Public Library this summer.

Play is the word at the Stettler Public Library this summer. Maggie, Kaylee and Shaunzy are the overseers of the funnest summer ever. Yes, funnest is a word that is used regularly here by everyone. Check out what is in store this summer at the library. We are the funnest place on earth.

We will be playing with a theme every week at the library and we have something for everyone. Week 1 theme is play and we will be building a fort, playing games such as Hot Potato and Bang, having wacky races and playing a makey makey piano. Week 2, we are going to move it, move it. Why not play a sport? Or better yet make one up? There will be puppet shows and dancethons.

Play is for everyone. Newborns to 5-year-olds will still get to partake in Read and Rhyme but it has moved to Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Kids ages 6 to 8 are part of the KerPlunk! Group and they will have tonnes of fun on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The kids in Boggle! (ages 9 to 12) will also meet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays but from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

We haven’t forgotten about the teens either. Teens can join us on Mondays at 4 for Teen Makers and on Tuesdays at the same time for Teen Gaming. If books are more your style, we are continuing our Teen Book Club into the summer on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. We finish up the teen-specific programming on Thursdays at 4 p.m. with a special event each week.

The summer program is returning to the Rochon Sands Community Hall on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate in the projects and activities.

Your whole family is invited to our family Eevents on Fridays at 2 p.m. These events are geared toward the family experiencing the idea of play. Our first family event is on Friday, July 3 at 2 p.m. and we are so pleased to present performers Lee and Sandy Paley.

For 30 years, Lee and Sandy Paley have been sharing their songs with children, their families and teachers while touring schools, libraries and communities across Canada. They have written and recorded over 200 songs and created a television series called Ballooner Landing which aired for 15 years on various networks including YTV, CBC, Global and PBS. The Stettler Public Library is excited to be presenting these wonderful entertainers.

Our next family event is Friday, July 10 at 2 p.m. involving rental shoes, throwing balls and pins falling over. Yes, we will be bowling at the Heartland Bowl. You must pre-register for this event. Call us at 403-742-2292 to register.

Also on Friday, July 10, Read and Rhyme will be taking a field trip to the Stettler Town and County Museum at 10 a.m. Join us for a tour of the Museum, rhymes, songs, and snacks. It is going to be a great time.
