Students express themselves through art

AMORE du TOIT/Elementary News

We trust that all our great families enjoyed a well-deserved little break this past long weekend.

Last week kindergarten students started with their swimming lessons at the swimming pool. Students really enjoyed these lessons and look forward to more swimming lessons for the next few months.

Jodie Limpert also organized the great exercise club where each student receives a punch card. Each time they complete a lap around the track they get a hole punched. For every two laps completed students receive a colourful “toe-tag”. Students really enjoy getting their daily exercise in this innovative fun way. It is great to see how students try their best to accumulate as many “toe-tags” as possible.

Students in Sandra Norman’s kindergarten class took part in the Elementary School’s Kids and Conversation program this past Wednesday. Students traveled to local senior’s lodges to engage the senior residents in conversation. The kindergarten students put on a play based on the story the Little Red Hen. The staff and residents at the lodge enjoyed the performance. Students then interacted with the residents by sharing a craft with them, and showing the lovely masks that they had made. It was a great opportunity for the students to get out into the community.

We also want to thank the Anderson family who took our schools donations to the Town of Slave Lake to help disaster victims there. We are very fortunate to have such amazingly caring parents and students.

On Thursday, May 19th our school enjoyed a Great Spirit day during our Crazy Hair Day. It was fun to see how innovative and creative students (and parents) were in creating crazy hair styles. All the colorful, funky and wacky hairdos only added to a fun and productive day. It is good to know that our students not only have creative hairstyles but equally creative thought processes. It is interesting to note that Einstein did have quite interesting hair.
