STETTLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL -- On Feb. 19, staff from Stettler Elementary School put a team of bowlers together to participate in the Heartland Youth Center's Bowl for Kids fundraiser. The Heartland Youth Center supports our students by offering the mentor and Rainbows programs, as well as the after school programs. Thank you Heartland Youth Center for this annual event and for all that you do for our students. As well, thank you to Mrs. Geddes for your work in organizing the team and the fundraising at the school level.

Appreciation also goes out to Mrs. Geddes for the work she has done in preparing her 2SG class to share their Fairy Tales with parents on Thursday, March 3. Most parents were able to make it out for this event, and the students did a fantastic job of learning their lines, knowing the staging and tying the fairly tales into the 7 Habits that they use on a daily basis at the school. The following day, Friday, March 4, our students enjoyed Taco in a Bag as their hot lunch. Thank you again to all of the parents who worked so hard to ensure our students could partake in this delicious lunch. We appreciate all that our parents do to support our students and school, and this is but one example of their hard work in action.

On Monday, Feb. 29 through to Wednesday, March 2, we were fortunate enough to have Lori Blake share her first hand experience and expertise about being safe on the farm. Lori travels to us from Hannah to share her farm safety presentations with our students and uses her personal experience to try to demonstrate for the children how very important it is to stay safe in all that they do.

We are excited to announce that the first of our student-led clubs have been approved and are up and running. All students at SES have been invited to submit ideas for new clubs that they would like to see in our school. As well, and as part of the leadership program, they need to organize a time, place, and teacher supervisor for their club and identify what is needed to ensure that the club is successful. The first clubs that are actively running are the Rubic's Cube Club, the Knitting Club, and the Line Dancing Club. We have many other clubs that are still in the organizational phase, but we anticipate that these, too, will be in full operation soon.

On Monday, March 7, the teachers participated in school-based PD during the early dismissal time, and that evening our parents attended the school council meeting. Just a reminder that our school council Mmeetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m., and they are held at the school library. All parents are invited to attend and the next meeting will be held on Monday, April 4. Other reminders include: Our report cards will be sent home on Monday, March 21, student-led conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 23, and our students will be participating in Super Hero Days on Wednesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 24. As well, there will be no school this Thursday and Friday, as all teachers in East Central Alberta will be traveling to Edmonton to participate in teachers' convention. We definitely have a couple of very busy weeks ahead of us, and we are looking forward to the great things that will be included.
