Strong men are needed for a library assignment

First of all, this is a quick reminder about tonight’s (April 28) writing workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Stettler Public Library. There are just six spots left to take in Fran Kimmel’s workshop “Speaking of Dialogue”.

Marking their day together – Volunteers who dedicate their time to the Stettler Public Library gathered on Saturday

First of all, this is a quick reminder about tonight’s (April 28) writing workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Stettler Public Library. There are just six spots left to take in Fran Kimmel’s workshop “Speaking of Dialogue”. Call 403.742.2292 to register. Soup and sandwiches will be provided.

The Stettler Public Library is looking for a few strong men and women who would like to volunteer their time in our rearrangement of some of the collections of the library. This involves the moving of books and shelves. If you are interested, contact us at 403.742.2292 or spl@libs.prl.ab.ca.

Are you curious as to what the Stettler Public Library has planned in the future? Every three years, the library has to develop a plan of service that is then submitted to the Ministry of Community Affairs, which looks after public libraries in Alberta. The Stettler Public Library’s 2010-2013 Plan of Service can be found on our website, http://spl.prl.ab.ca. But I will give you a few highlights of our four goals.

Our first goal is to make the Stettler Public Library a comfortable place to visit. We want to provide everyone with a safe and welcoming physical environment to meet and interact with others or to sit quietly and read. Everyone will have open and accessible virtual space that supports networking.

Secondly, the Stettler Public Library wants to stimulate your imagination. Everyone who wants materials to enhance their leisure time will find what they want when and where they want them and will have the help they need to make choices from among the options.

The library’s third goal is to connect to the world online. Residents will have high-speed access to the digital world with no unnecessary restrictions or fees to ensure that everyone can take advantage of the ever-growing resources and services available through the internet.

Our fourth and final goal is to create young readers. Children from birth to age five will have programs and services designed to ensure that they will enter school ready to learn to read, write and listen.

These are our four goals in our plan of service. If you have any ideas that can help the Stettler Public Library achieve its goals, we would love to hear from you. We love to learn about how we can improve to help the citizens of the Town and County of Stettler utilize their library better. E-mail us at spl@libs.prl.ab.ca with your input.

The Stettler Public Library is proud to host the gala opening of the HYC Art Show on Thursday, May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. Come and take in the artistic achievements of young local artists as they display their masterpieces for the public. Refreshments will be served.

On Saturday, April 24 the Stettler Public Library invited their volunteers to a special event held in their honour. All I can say is that we have the best volunteers and we could not be the library that we are without your help and dedication. Thank you all.
