Strawberry shortcake was main menu item in two events last week

RUMSEY RECORD

Monday, Feb. 14, the ladies from the area travelled to Trochu to host the monthly birthday party at St. Mary’s Health Care Center. Two birthdays were celebrated that day; Bessie Fraser and Elmer Wic. It was also the day of Elmer’s 58th wedding anniversary and he was joined by his wife who lives in their own home and visits regularly. Congratulations.

It was my turn to be the hostess and appreciate all the good help from my helpers. You are just great and everyone enjoyed the strawberry shortcake. Each resident received a valentine and a chocolate heart to help make their day a little brighter.

The March birthday party is scheduled for Monday, March 21, when Helen Steen will be the hostess.

It was a bright day as the weather has given us a break from the cold of two weeks ago. We don’t have the snow and cold this week, but the warmer temperatures have melted the snow to make for very icy conditions on the sidewalks and driveways. By the end of the week, we were back in the deep-freeze again with cold temps. Thank goodness the roads are bare and dry.

Many folks went to Morrin to the community hall to take in the annual Valentine Tea put on by the students of the Morrin School elementary classes. Strawberry shortcake was on the menu there also.

Did you give your sweetheart a valentine on Monday? If you didn’t, you are missing an opportunity to make ‘brownie points’.

Hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s Day, no matter what you were doing.

Several friends have birthdays right around Valentine’s Day. You know who you are, so happy birthday. Mine is Feb. 10 and had a wonderful day with friends and family around. It was regular drop-in day, so thanks to good friends, we had a special lunch with several folks joining us. Had a delicious steak supper at the curling rink while everyone else was enjoying their oyster suppers.

I was very disappointed to have missed the 4-H public speaking that was held this week. No-one mentioned it to me and this was maybe the first one we’ve missed in a long time. Apparently they were held Tuesday evening.

Best wishes to Mike Steen as he is home recovering from surgery in Edmonton’s University Hospital early this week. Hospital stays are sure nothing like they used to be in times of length. All is well and he is glad to be home and finished with this for now.

Hope you have March 14-15 marked on your calendars as being the days of the annual quilting in Rumsey Drop-in Center. Plan to attend as it is a great couple of days. There are plenty of jobs for those who don’t ‘sew’. Many hands are needed to hold, pin, reach, hold, and reach. Bring your sandwich and plan to come.

Next weekend is the mixed doubles bonspiel in Rumsey. Phone entries to David Sengaus, 368-2457.

The date of the mixed bonspiel is March 7-12. Again, phone entries to David Sengaus.

There are two bull sales coming up in the district in March.

Get well wishes to anyone who has been under the weather with this flu bug that goes around every winter. Also wishes to anyone confined to hospital this week. With the weather as cold as it is today, that may not be such a bad place to be.
