Stettler was good but Donalda was better

We at the Stettler Public Library had so much fun with Family Literacy Day and Reading Smackdown 2016.

STETTLER PUBLIC LIBRARY -- We at the Stettler Public Library had so much fun with Family Literacy Day and Reading Smackdown 2016. We were blown away by the enthusiasm of Stettler area readers. Our final total was 1870 or 17.26 per cent of the town and county's population. And we're sending out our congratulations to the winner of this year's Read for 15 competition: Donalda Municipal Library. They had 62.2 per cent of the village population participate. You now know what we are aiming for next year, Stettler!

Pick up your copy of Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and join us for Readers' Circle on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Spanning decades, the book kicks off in 1962 on the Italian coast, following a love affair that ends in Hollywood years later. This book is being made into a movie in 2016. Everyone is welcome! Our March pick is "Where Did You Go, Bernadette?" by Maria Semple and copies are available at the library.

Do you want to learn how to sew? Join us on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. for Sew Cool Saturday. You will make a fun and crazy pillow case for your bed at home. Everyone aged eight to adult is welcome. Please pre-register at 403-742-2292, because space is limited.

The Film Circuit is coming to a close for the season on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. Come to the Jewel Theatre to see the Icelandic film "Rams". It tells the story of a remote farming valley, where two brothers who haven't spoken in 40 years (their grudging communications are carried out via letters carried by one brother's dog) have to come together in order to save what's dearest to them - their sheep. With gentle humour, Rams offers an understanding yet satirical take on self reliance, and how that otherwise admirable quality can turn into shortsightedness, and recalcitrance.

And be sure to save the date on Saturday, March 12, for the library's Beyond the Bling event. It's going to be an evening of relaxed Hawaiian fun for adults. Prizes, 50-50 draw, appetizers, cocktails and more...

Check out additional activities on our website (spl.prl.ab.ca) and Facebook page. And if you have an activity you'd like to see at the library, feel free to approach us!
