Stettler supports Camp Day

Tim Hortons’ customers around Stettler were able to get their caffeine fix while doing their part in sending deserving kids to camp.

In North America, the Tim Hortons Camp Day raised $9.9 million, $4,388 of which came directly from the Stettler Tim Hortons. The total will send 14,000 needy children and youths on a camping trip.

All income from coffee purchases on June 1 across Canada and the Unites States was donated to Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation, which organizes the camps.

The Tim Hortons on 50 Avenue was bustling during the 24-hour period with many volunteers from the community, including Mayor Dick Richards, members of the ambulance service and many other business owners in Stettler helping to serve customers.

“We never have any shortage of support from the community,” said Stettler Tim Hortons owner Rene Bernard.

Other attractions, aside from ‘celebrity’ servers, included window washing in the drive-thru and the sale of balloons in the store.

Although the total raised was $70 less than the total from last year, Bernard says that the support from the community is always there.

“Camp Day seems to be growing,” said Bernard. “It’s growing more and more every year.”

Since 1975, more than 150,000 children and youths have attended a camp funded by Camp Day fundraisers at no cost to them or their families.
