Helen Smith, 92, bowls surrounded by her family in August.

A Stettler Senior is keeping active in her golden years.

Helen Muhlbach Smith,92,  has been bowling since 1992 and is a member of the Stettler Senior's Bowling League which takes place at Heartland Bowl.

"I used to have a fairly high average at one time," said Smith, noting that her average has dropped some in recent years.

"I used to compete in the summer games at one time."

Smith says that today her average depends on the day, sometimes it's higher and sometimes it's lower, but she still loves the sport, and feels that it is accessible for everyone.

"I think it's a very good sport," said Smith"

Bowling is also a family affair; in August, in honour of Smith's 92nd birthday, the family got together at Heartland Bowl and had multiple generations hit the lanes.

Smith, her older sister, and generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were all participating. Smith believes there were 10-12 great-grandchildren in total.

"She out-bowled all of us," said daughter Kathy Lessard.

"We had over 35 descendants bowling with her."

The Friday afternoon Seniors League has around 15 bowlers every week.

There is also a Tuesday afternoon Seniors' League, which has around 18 bowlers every week.
