Stettler Public Library news

I know that Stettler is full of readers because I have talked with many of you about books over the years

I know that Stettler is full of readers because I have talked with many of you about books over the years, so we at the library would like to know your favourites.

Email me the title of the best book that you read in 2013 at astassistant@prl.ab.ca. Let’s share our recommendations with each other!

My favourite book of 2013 was “Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal,” by Mary Roach. It’s a way to take a trip down the digestive tract without being in the Magic School Bus. With chapter titles such as “Dead man’s bloat: and other diverting tales from the history of flatulence research “and “Big gulp: how to survive being swallowed alive,” it is everything that you would ever want in a science book.

My recommendation is disgusting, hilarious and enlightening. I recommend this book to anyone who has the stomach for it.

Here is some information about our upcoming move into our home at the Stettler Recreation Centre. We’ll begin packing up the downtown location on Wednesday, Feb. 12, and will remain open there until Tuesday, Feb. 18. We will close at the downtown location on Feb. 19, but starting on that day, we will have a desk set up downstairs at the SRC where you can pick up and return books and other items.

During that period, Read and Rhyme and Tutoring Tuesdays will continue in one of the upstairs meeting rooms at the SRC. We don’t have an exact date for reopening, but we should be ready in early March. You can stay up-to-date on changes in schedules by reading our column, our website (http://spl.prl.ab.ca) and our Facebook page (Stettler Public Library).

Also, if you would like to volunteer to help with the move into our newly renovated space, contact the library at 403-742-2292 to get yourself on our volunteer list.

Did you know that you can download magazines onto your tablet or computer with your library membership? Zinio is free, there’s no waiting, and the magazines never have to be returned! More than 100 popular titles, including Canadian Living, Alberta Outdoorsmen, Shape, Hello and The Hockey News are among the titles.

Do you reside in the County of Stettler? The Stettler Public Library Board is seeking two new members-at-large. Contact the library at 403-742-2292 for further details.

The Stettler Public Library is your community library and we want to know how we are doing. Please fill out our Satisfaction Survey on our webpage (http://spl.prl.ab.ca) and let us know what you think.

We are always looking for your input.
