It never fails.

I’m visiting out of province when someone expresses surprise that our library can host kids’ cooking classes; or a visitor from another community comments on our spacious facility or our expansive collections.

We’re used to all that we have available to us but sometimes it’s a shot in the arm to hear it from someone else.

We encourage everyone to take advantage of all the creative, informative, and fun programs we have to offer for children, teens, adults, and seniors.

Children:

For little ones aged 0-5 and their parents, Read and Rhyme is held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

We’re looking forward to seeing those tiny people in cute costumes at our Read and Rhyme Costume Party for a Halloween-themed story time and some treats Fri, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Be sure to download the free app 1000 Books Before Kindergarten to inspire your family reading and register at the library for prizes.

Enjoy our Monster Bash Halloween party on Sat, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. featuring crafts and games for ages 6 and up.

Test your courage at our creepy fear factor, or make some monster slime to take home. Come in costume!

We’ll have something for everyone, even hot dogs if you’re just here for the snacks.

There’s always fun games and activities for kids aged 6 and up at Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.

Thu, Oct. 27 – Nailed it! Halloween edition: We’ll make spooky edible masterpieces for a chance to win!

Tue, Nov. 1—Many Marvelous Marbles! Thu, Nov. 3—Let’s mess around with creative clay.

Now is the time to get that extra academic help your child needs with free individual tutoring at the library. Appointments available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for K-12 students. Call the library for more details.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Let’s make some mind-bending perler bead art on Wed, Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m.! Snacks will be out to fuel your creativity, ages 10+.

Adults:

Crystal’s Craft Club meets Thu, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. for a relaxing evening of making photo holders from everyday materials. These will be perfect for displaying family or pet pictures.

Yoga Nidra happens Thu, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. via Zoom. Cameras will be off so if you fall asleep, we’ll disconnect at the session’s end without waking you. Call the library for the zoom link.

Mark your calendar for Mon, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. when we’ll screen the next Film Circuit movie – One Night in Miami, a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and others discuss their roles in the civil rights movement of the 60s. Concession will be open for all your noshing needs.

Minds in Motion is for anyone experiencing cognitive decline or Alzheimer’s and their care partners. We meet Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 for light exercise and social activities that stimulate the mind and body.

And speaking of care partners, if you find yourself in that role, why not meet others for a drop-in support group, first Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. to share information and tips.

Reader’s Circle Book Club will be reading The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson for November. Pick up a copy at the library of this historical novel full of wit, romance and insight into the manners and morals of small-town British life on the eve of World War 1, then join the discussion Tue, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Join other adults who enjoy socializing, art, games, and fun activities. We call ourselves Afternoon Friends and meet Tuesdays at 1 p.m. On Nov. 1, we’ll play marbles.
