Here we are in the first few days of February. Can you believe it?

I mean it feels like New Year’s Day was just a couple of days ago, but time is flying because we are having fun here at the Stettler Public Library.

Check out what is coming in the next couple of weeks.

Our next Adult Gaming Night at the Jewel Theatre is Feb. 9, 2022, at 7 p.m.

Are you looking for something fun but different to do on a Wednesday evening? Come by yourself or bring some friends for a night of fun games on the big screen; all you need is your cell phone to play along.

Admission is by donation.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the games start at 7 p.m., giving you enough time to hit the concession for all your snacking and beverage needs. Believe me you must have a hot dog!

That is not the only time that you can join Stettler Public Library at the Jewel Theatre that week!

We will be there for the Stettler Film Circuit on Feb. 7 and 10 at 7 p.m.

We will be there to celebrate sunny days chasing the clouds away! Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street tells the story of the incredibly talented and forward-looking people who brought us the most impactful children’s series ever in TV history.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the Library until 6 p.m. on the Saturday before the showings. Don’t be a Grouch and miss this movie!

February is the Month of Love and Something Cool after School will have you wearing your heart on your sleeve (or lapel) when you get to create your own Valentine’s Day buttons.

These would make the perfect Valentine gift for your friends or family.

Join in on the fun on Feb. 8 or 10 at 4 p.m. Children ages 6 and up are welcome to join the fun but you must register because spaces are limited.

On Feb. 5th we will be building our own robotic hands out of cardboard. You can use them to extend your reaching power. We will practice using them to grab different objects, it is sure to be a hoot! Spaces are limited so contact the library to register. The don’t forget to sign up for Kids’ Coding Club on Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. or 12 noon. We will learn how to create our own backgrounds and sprites using the Scratch drawing tools. Space is limited and we don’t want you to miss out., so be sure to register in advance.

I know when I think about Valentine’s Day, I think about candy. February is the month that we celebrate pastel-coloured candy and chocolate. Teen Scene will be no exception, get into the mood for Valentine’s by making special candy jars with us on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.

Make it for yourself or give it as a great gift. Teens and ‘tweens are invited to join us, but please pre-register at the library.

One of the best ways to celebrate every day is to spend time reading with your family and the Stettler Public Library has the perfect programs to nurture blossoming early readers.

First of all, I would like to introduce you to 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This program promotes pre-literacy and learning by reading 1000 books together before kindergarten, just like the program name.

Sign up at the Library to receive small prizes as you reach milestones along with way.

Download the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten app to help you keep track.

Also, don’t forget to join us for Read and Rhyme on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for songs, rhymes and stories!

We can’t forget that we should love and take care of ourselves during February as well so make sure that you put Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. on your calendar.

Get cozy at home and join Alicia Tate via Zoom for a relaxing Yoga Nidra.

We will turn our cameras off for full relaxation and if you fall asleep, you will be disconnected at the end of the session, no worries! Benefits of Yoga Nidra include help managing immune function, blood pressure, cortisol levels and inducing a restful sleep.

Call the Library to get the Zoom link and join us!

For information about any of our programs or to register for events, call the Library at 403-742-2292.

We can also help you print off the government documents that you need, find that book to read or movie to watch, or a service in your community. Don’t forget to check out our website (spl.prl.ab.ca) for other services and events coming up and follow us on Facebook for updates and other fun stuff!
